The Hanoi Bike Shop

Second post and this time I went to The Hanoi Bike Shop in the West End. Hanoi is a Vietnamese  restaurant tucked down a lane off Byres Road. The West End is not great for parking but if you go after 6pm and are lucky, can find a space. If not, it is literally a one minute walk from the nearest subway and bus stop.   The venue is an explosion of colour, with mismatched furniture and cute lanterns everywhere. It has a very bright and cheerful vibe, and all the staff were super nice and helpful. Hanoi is not fully plant based but they are known for their homemade tofu, which is made fresh daily. I went with two of my friends and ordered the following to share; Black Pepper & Soy Glazed Tofu, Rice Paper Rolls, Salt and Chilli Plantain Chips.        If you order one thing, I'd recommend the Glazed Tofu as it was honestly so flavoursome! We then each ordered a bowl of Pho - a noodle and broth dish straight out of Vietnam. It's a build yo...

If you order one thing, I'd recommend the Glazed Tofu as it was honestly so flavoursome! We then each ordered a bowl of Pho - a noodle and broth dish straight out of Vietnam. It's a build your own style where you choose your protein (chicken, beef, seafood, or tofu & mushroom), then any extras like more noodles, and finally your spice. Fair warning - I'd recommend choosing a spice and then going one lower! I enjoy relatively spicy food and I went for level 7 and struggled with it, but other than that it was great.

Overall, the place is a 7/10 - the vibes were great, the food delicious and something different, but I felt there could have been some more options for plant based eaters. Give it a try if you're ever up the West End!

The 13th Note

This blog, as part of my marketing course, will focus on something important to me – food! I’ll be trying different plant-based restaurants in and around Glasgow. The first is The 13 th  Note. This is a nondescript little bar down off Argyle Street. Its website promotes itself as a cafĂ© and bar, with live music and a love of dogs. As I drive, I managed to park right outside with no trouble but if you fancied having a drink whilst there it is only a four-minute walk from the nearest train station. The venue is a cosy space, with a separate bar and dining area. It has plenty of booths, high chairs and tables, and a fully stocked bar. The menu is fully vegan, and has plenty of beers and vegan wines for drinking. It also has a good selection of mocktails for those not looking to get drunk or designated drivers like I was when I visited. Speaking of mocktails – I tried two. The Elderflower Virgin Fizz and the Not So Merry Berry. The Elderflower was a refreshingly sweet drink th...
